BBHL - Official Rules & Procedures
This rule book serves as the official guide for all GMs in the BBHL.
Part 1 - General Info, Contacts & Responsibilities:
What is the BBHL?
The Blade Brothers Hockey League (BBHL) is a lifetime keeper fantasy hockey league that consists of 14 franchised teams. As a GM of a BBHL franchise, you get the experience of managing your own team of professional hockey players. Your goal is to get the best lineup on the ice every day. The better your players perform in real-life games, the more value they will bring to your team.
The BBHL will consist of two 7 team divisions, designated as the Eastern Division and the Western Division. Team names must be selected from an NHL city and can be from a current or defunct franchise. You can choose a nickname for your team that you want or you can just go with the NHL city's nickname; for example Toronto Maple Leafs.
The only limitation we'll have on the city/nickname that you use is that we require 7 Eastern Division teams and 7 Western Division teams.
League Championship:
At the end of each regular season, 8 teams will qualify for the BBHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Division winners will automatically qualify as the top 2 seeds. The division winner with the best overall record is awarded the #1 seed. The 6 remaining playoff teams are determined by overall standings, regardless of division results.
The BBHL playoffs are a 3 round elimination tournament with the winner of the final round designated as the BBHL Champion. If Yahoo has a 1-week final, then our playoffs will end 1 week before the end of the NHL regular season. If Yahoo has a 2-week final for the championship, then our playoffs will also last 2 weeks. The BBHL Champion will be awarded a cash prize.
Yearly Franchise Fee:
Each GM is required to pay a $25 franchise fee by the end of April annually. Once everyone is roster compliant and has paid their fee, the BBHL can re-open for business.
League Prizes:
$75 - 1st overall
$50 - Other Division winner
$25 - Division runner-up
$25 - Division runner-up
$75 - playoff champion
$50 - playoff runner up
$25 - playoff 3rd place winner
$25 - consolation round winner
Please note that the prize money payout for the regular season will be based upon the division standings and not the overall standings.
Who’s running the BBHL?
The BBHL is owned and operated collectively by all members of the Blade Brothers Hockey League. The BBHL needs GMs in this league that are committed to winning and participating at the highest level possible.
Commissioners: Justin Masse, Glenn Sampson and Steve Woodhall
The Commissioners' responsibilities include running drafts, approving trades, updating the website, interpreting rules, overseeing free agent (FA) player signings, and anything else deemed necessary to run the

A 1 day waiver period has been enabled in this league so that Yahoo can process all waiver requests.
Farm eligible players on your team are not subject to waivers and can move freely between your Pro team and your Farm team. All Farm roster moves will be updated daily by Justin, Glenn or myself.
If you send one of your eligible players back to your Farm team after we have done the updates, usually after 7:00 p.m. daily, let Justin, Glenn or I know as soon as possible so that we can change that player's status in Yahoo to FA.
Other Considerations:
Position eligibility is determined by Yahoo.
IR and IR+ eligibility will be based strictly on Yahoo. Unlike previous years, if Yahoo doesn't show a player's status as being eligible to be placed on IR or IR+ (IR, IR-NR, IR-LT, DAY-TO-DAY or OUT), you will no longer be able to substitute this player by temporarily dropping that player from your roster and adding a replacement player.
In exceptional circumstances, the Commissioners may review a request to place a player on IR+; for example, what happened to Byfuglien a few years back. In almost every case though, a GM may have to wait until the NHL team updates the player's status, which may take a few days to be reflected on Yahoo.
RFA players who have not yet signed a contract will not be eligible for IR+. If Yahoo allows you to place an RFA on IR+ before the season starts, you will have to move the RFA to your active or farm roster by the roster deadline date.
Players who had been placed on IR or IR+ should be taken off of IR or IR+ as soon as possible after they have been reactivated on Yahoo.
During the NHL season, free agents may be added using the waiver system on Yahoo.
Waiver Priority: The waiver order priority is retained year over year; that is, the waiver priority listed on Yahoo at the end of the NHL regular season will be the waiver priority put in place at the beginning of the next NHL season. The initial waiver order will be the reverse order of the inaugural draft order.
Any player dropped from your Farm team will be subject to a 1 day waiver period. Any player dropped in the offseason, whether from your Pro or Farm team, will be subject to a 1 day waiver period too.
Any team wishing to add a player dropped outright from the Farm or a player dropped in the offseason, must put in a waiver claim before 6:00 p.m. the following day. Please send your waiver request by e-mail or WhatsApp to Justin, Glenn or myself to ensure the privacy of your intentions.
If more than 1 team wants the player dropped to waivers, Justin, Glenn or I will manually process this waiver request after the 6:00 p.m. deadline has expired. If there are no claims submitted, then the player becomes a free agent.
As per Yahoo rules and regulations, the top 8 teams will be in the Playoffs starting 4 weeks from the end of the NHL's regular season. The league will be divided into 2 divisions of 7 teams each.
Once the NHL regular season ends, and we've reset all league functions, free agent pickups will be allowed in full.
Part 3 - Trades:
Teams can trade as they wish during the regular season up until the trade deadline. The trade deadline each year will be approximately one week after the actual trade deadline set by the NHL for that season.
Regular season trades must be proposed using the Yahoo system. Additionally, all trades must be posted on Proboards first by 1 GM and then confirmed by the other GM, or the trade is NOT valid.
All trades will automatically be processed by Yahoo, so please don't accept a trade unless you are positive that this is what you want to do. If you've made a mistake, state your case on Proboards so that we can consider both sides of the trade.
Any GM who objects to a trade shall post valid reasons why he does not think this trade should go through. Some trades will be unbalanced; some trades will have a definite winner and loser - that's just the way it is with trades as we all value players differently.
Neither of these reasons alone is enough to negate a trade; however, severely unbalanced trades can undermine the BBHL. Consequently, there must be a mechanism in place to overturn, what potentially, may be a bad trade for the BBHL.
Therefore, if 4 or more GMs post objections to any trade in the BBHL, then said trade shall be put on hold and the Commissioners, Justin, Glenn and myself, will decide the outcome of this trade.
If any of the 3 Commissioners are involved in a trade under scrutiny, then another GM will take their place in the vote. This additional GM will be selected from all other GMs in the league, if required, on a rotational basis (in alphabetical order). The vote will be final and only then, if approved, will the players officially change hands in Yahoo.
Offseason trades shall be posted in the forum under Trade Announcements. All trades need to be confirmed by the other GM involved in the trade. Once again, if there are any issues, the trade will be voted on prior to being accepted by the League.
Part 4 - Farm Teams:
Each team's Farm Team consists of 20 farm eligible players. You may exceed this number by putting farm players on your roster on Yahoo, as long as your team roster size is no more than 46 players.
Farm player eligibility:
To remain fully eligible on your farm:
Skaters - Have played in 100 NHL career games or less before the start of the current season.
Goalies - Have played in 75 NHL career games or less before the start of the current season.
Prospects maintain their eligibility for the full NHL season up until the beginning of the new NHL season in October. This also includes farm players that are subject to waivers. Please note that if a farm player is waiver exempt at the beginning of the season, that farm player is waiver exempt for the entire season.
When a farm player moves to the active roster, the GM will have to drop another player from his active roster in accordance with the normal Yahoo free agent rules.
Some farm players that are protected will be available as free agents in the Yahoo pool of free agent players. No GM shall sign another GM's farm player as a free agent. Please check the Team Roster page first before adding a farm eligible player.
Part 5 - Entry Draft:
There will be a 3 round, non-snake Entry Draft each year, usually commencing in late June during the same weekend that the NHL conducts its Entry Draft.
All players that have been draft eligible in the past and who remain under the 100/75 game limit for Skaters/Goalies respectively, can be picked in the Entry Draft, as well as any player from the current year's NHL Entry Draft.
There will be two random draws for the 4 lowest placed teams during the regular season. The winner of the 1st draw will be awarded the 1st pick in the upcoming Entry Draft. The winner of the 2nd draw will be awarded the 2nd pick in the upcoming Entry Draft.
Once the two random draws have been completed, the remaining teams will be placed in the reverse order of the final regular season standings (prior to the League Playoffs). Exception: The League Playoff champion shall have the last pick in each round of the Entry Draft.
Part 6 - Team Competition:
Every GM must activate their most competitive roster throughout the season. As a GM in the BBHL, you must have each roster position filled throughout the season and must actively rotate these players into the starting roster whenever possible. If you are not setting your roster on a regular, there may be consequences up to and including dismissal from the BBHL.
Welcome to the BBHL.
